Gold Coast Anthology is a cross genre collection of stories inspired by a selection of images of the Gold Coast, Australia. We invite submissions from authors with a connection to the Gold Coast Australia, from all genres, to assist us to create a collection of stories inspired an image from the set on this website. Please see the submission guidelines if you are considering submitting a story to the anthology.
The anthology itself is being organised by Prana Writers, a Gold Coast Writers Group. Funding assistance for the project is provided by a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grant sponsored by arts Queensland and Gold Coast City Council. Images are provided by the Gold Coast City Council’s Local Studies Library collection, ‘Picture Gold Coast’.
Sorry to post this here, but the ‘contact us’ link wasn’t working for me.
Are there restrictions on content/theme? For example, If a work paints aspects of the Gold Coast in a negative light, is it less likely to be accepted? I ask because a lot that I’ve read/heard gives me the impression that works promoting the Gold Coast are desired. Would a language with heavy themes (e.g. bullying) and offensive language be inappropriate for this anthology?
Hi Stephen,
Genre writers and readers thrive on conflict and dramatic content. Tackling serious themes like bullying and using swearing as it fits the narrative should be fine. We really don’t just want stories that paint a positive picture of the Gold Coast.
I’ll ask Elizabeth to express her view on this, too.
Helen
And thanks for letting us know about the ‘contact us’ problem.
I agree with Helen. Balance creates a good anthology and the only way to get balance is through variety.
All does not glitter on the glittery strip.
does it have to be contemporary genre or can it be spec fic inspired ?
Hi Karen,
All genres are welcome including speculative fiction. We love speculative fiction!
